What is your preferred medium and why?

Do you use more than one medium? Have

your preferences changed?

I like to use acrylics because they are great to

work with. They give vibrant colours which suit

my work perfectly, and they feel lovely as you

move the paint around – very sensuous!

Q4 .

You are renowned not only for your paintings

but also for your innovative presentation

style. Could you tell us a little about this.

Printing and presentation has come on in leaps

and bounds over the years that I have been

painting. I have always endeavoured to

experiment with new innovations and highly

developed techniques as they offer me an original

way of presenting my work - I look at every piece

and decide how best to represent the colours,

texture, atmosphere and impact. A great recent

example of this is in my latest collection of limited

editions. Into the Night and Morning Glory have

both been created using dye sublimation – an

extraordinary process during which solid dyes are

subjected to extreme heat, causing them to

vaporise and permeate the glossy surface of a

thin piece of aluminium before they return to solid

form. Because the colour infuses the metal, you

get superbly vibrant colours and a lustrous finish

which I am delighted with.

Q5 .

Does your personality come across in your paintings - if so how?

Nice paintings - nice guy?! My paintings are full of energy but I think they also

have a calmness about them which sums me up really!

Q 6 .

What do you want people to take away from your paintings?

I feel very strongly that whatever my work means to me is deeply personal,

and by extension, this is also true of the people who are looking at it. Everyone

has their own response to art, and when I meet collectors they often surprise

me when they tell me what they see in one of my paintings. I don’t believe in

explaining my work or guiding people around it, as I think it is what you see

that is important – and often, the more you look, the more you see.
